Website Optimization Strategies to Improve Speed, User Experience (UX), and SEO

The pretty part of your website (the frontend) is what you display for the world to see. The techy side of your website (the backend) is where optimization occurs to keep your website running at its best! It’s the part no one sees but can affect or break the functionality of the front end and disrupt the experience for your audience. By optimizing your small business website, you can maintain fast load times, ensure third-party integrations are up to date to prevent hacking, and provide your audience with a responsive design that delivers the best experience, encouraging them to return. Below are the areas in your website that need optimizing regularly: Post Outline: How to Improve Page Speed Enhance User Experience (UX) by Optimizing for Mobile Responsiveness Strengthening On-Page SEO Website Security and Performance Optimization Techniques Track Performance and Repeat Find out where your website lacks optimization

How to Improve Page Speed

Four things that slow your website down the most are:
Images – One of the ways to optimize your images is by keeping them as small as possible without losing their quality. Images larger than 250 KB are too large.
Video – Everyone loves displaying videos on their website, but it’s the fastest way to slow down your website. Sure, the autoplay video is really well done and showcases your brand, but if your audience leaves your site before it finishes loading, then it’s not worth it. A better way to display the video is to upload it to a third-party host, such as Vimeo or YouTube, and then embed the video on your website. This usually means the autoplay feature is not an option, but the video is still viewable on the website with a simple click.
Third Party Integrations – If your website is on WordPress, these are called plugins. Any integrations you add to your site (whether WordPress or not) add code to your site and take time to load. That’s why the best practice is only to add the ones you need and delete any that you are not using. The companies that create the integrations often release updates that can sometimes improve speed while maintaining top-notch security, keeping hackers at bay.
Script Code – This one is a little more advanced; I don’t recommend making changes to the code on your website unless you have experience. The code is what makes up your website, including its design and integrations. Sometimes, combining code can increase the speed of your website.

Enhance User Experience (UX) by Optimizing for Mobile Responsiveness

As you probably already know, your audience is likely viewing your site on their phone rather than their computers. But did you realize you can optimize your website so it provides a different experience based on what device they are using? The way you optimize your site for a computer might slow everything down for a phone or not display correctly, which doesn’t provide your audience with the best experience. Ensuring your site is responsive and you’re mindful of page speed using the techniques above will have your website running its best no matter the device.

Website Security and Performance Optimization Techniques

There’s a lot on the backend of your website that no one talks about, but I see it all too often. You launched your beautiful new website—everything looks polished, your brand is shining, and you’re excited to share it with the world. A few months go by…
A plugin update breaks your contact form.

Your site starts loading slower—hello, lost visitors.

You notice a weird security warning on one of your pages.

And suddenly, that dream site? It’s not working like it used to.

Not managing the backend of your site can have serious consequences. To keep your website running as it should, you need to keep everything from the platform, theme, third-party integrations, and certificates updated. This also keeps your site more protected from hackers. Don’t let your website sit on the back burner and watch all the time and investment you put into go down the drain, forcing you to start from scratch again!
